STEP 1

Cover the top or back of the part in need of repair and make a plaster cast of the instrument. Once the plaster mold is dry, whittle the deformed part of the plaster to even it out to an ideal shape as needed. Put a plate on the top or bottom of the mold, hold it in place, then the restoration begins.

We scrape off the worm-eaten part and pick a sample that matched the tree rings and grain out from the instrument.

STEP 2

Place sampled pieces considered the thicknesses, lengths, and widths in position on the warm-eaten parts.

STEP 3

We glue the sampled wooden parts to the instrument, and add a well-adjusted lining to consolidate the pieces. Then, we press them with a hot sandbag so that the lining and pieces are firmly fixed and well leveled. Drying takes about 12 hours

STEP 4

After the parts are doubled and fixed, we arrange a piece of wood corresponding to the original. We tighten the linings and leave the parts in press for another 12 hours. Then we carefully adjust the thickness of the parts considering the overall harmony of the instrument. To finish up, we color the linings to make them as discreet as possible.
